Short-term Rehabilitation at Thompson House
The Thompson House also specializes in the care and rehabilitation of short-term patients with medically complex needs-services we provide in spacious surroundings separated from the longer-term population. In order to restore the highest level of independence to the patient, a comprehensive assessment is performed, leading to an individualized plan of care. Having immediate access to Northern Dutchess Hospital gives residents and their families the assurance that quality acute care is just around the corner.
We treat a broad range of orthopedic, neurological, neuromuscular and arthritic disorders, including:
- Joint replacements
- Circulatory problems
- Post-surgical recovery
- Parkinson's disease
Forms of Therapy
The Thompson House offers many different types of therapy, including Physical Rehabilitation, and Occupational, Speech and Language Therapy. The injury or illness of the patient determines the customized type of therapy we prescribe. In all cases, we make a point to have an attending physician available, as well as medical consultants who are called in as needed. Regardless of what kind of therapy is needed, the goal is always to restore each patient's ability to function comfortably at home.
Post-Operative Amputee Program
This specialized program is designed to provide post-operative, pre-prosthetic, amputative care, in a collaboration of services between The Thompson House and the Rosenthal Rehabilitation Center. Initial treatment and prosthetic measurement begins here, and then the patient is transferred to Rosenthal for inpatient therapy before returning home.
