Paul Rosenthal Rehabilitation Center

The Paul Rosenthal Rehabilitation Center at Northern Dutchess Hospital is located in the quaint hamlet of Rhinebeck, NY, in the scenic and historic Hudson Valley. Our 10-bed, state-of-the-art, acute rehabilitation facility offers a spacious therapy gym, private modern rooms with private baths and a separate community dining room/activity area that is welcoming to your family and friends.

Our Services

The Paul Rosenthal Rehabilitation Center offers a comprehensive continuum of services to individuals recovering from neurological, cardiopulmonary, and orthopedic disorders. Individuals who qualify for acute rehabilitation must require at least two skilled therapies (PT, OT, or SLP), be medically stable, be able to participate in and benefit from three hours per day of skilled therapy and have an identifiable discharge plan to a community setting. We provide services to patients, 18 and older, with functional loss due to injury, illness or surgey.  Some rehab diagnoses include:

  • Stroke (CVA)
  • Amputations
  • Hip fractures
  • Joint Replacements
  • Multiple Trauma
  • Polyneuropathies/Myopathies
  • Parkinson's Disease
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Gullian-Barre Syndrome
  • Brain Injury
  • Spinal Cord Injury
  • Polyarthritis

In 2012, the diagnoses of patients served included: 

  • 101 Joint Replacements
  • 34 Lower Extremity Fractures
  • 14 Strokes
  • 6 Brain Injuries
  • 6 Lower Extremity Amputations
  • 6 Neurologic Disorders
  • 4 Debility
  • 4 Multiple Traumas
  • 3 Spinal Cord Injuries
  • 3 Other Orthopedic Impairments
  • 1 Cardiac
  • 1 Guillan-Barre Syndrome

The average age of our patients was 70, 64% female and 36% male.

We welcome all referrals and are covered by most major medical insurances including Medicare.

Our Accreditation and Rankings

The Paul Rosenthal Rehabilitation Center is CARF accredited. CARF (Commission for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) accreditation represents the highest level of accreditation awarded to rehabilitation facilities. An organization receiving this accreditation has put itself through a rigorous peer review process and has demonstrated that its programs and services are of the highest quality, measurable and accountable.

Some other notable achievements include:

  • According to MedTel, an outside clinical data collection agency, 100% of patients surveyed would recommend The Paul Rosenthal Rehabilitation Center to a friend.
  • Our discharge to a community setting in 2011 was 85%, higher than the national average of 76% and regional average of 72%.
  • The Paul Rosenthal Rehab Center, as part of the Health-Quest System, has successfully transitioned to an Electronic Medical Record.

Our Commitment

Our goal is to help each patient resume as active and independent a life as possible. We understand that each patient has a unique set of personal circumstances which play an integral part in defining his/her rehabilitation needs. Each patient admitted to our rehabilitation program is evaluated by our skilled team of healthcare professionals. An individualized treatment program is developed to help achieve the greatest level of functioning.
