Rhinebeck, NY…Northern Dutchess Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce the selection of the Northern Dutchess Hospital Mothers’ Club as the honoree for the 2010 Starlight Ball set for Saturday, June 19th.

The Northern Dutchess Hospital Mothers’ Club has been in existence since 1954. Today, with 20 active members and the support of many past members from around the community, the Mothers’ Club has dedicated itself to raising funds for programs, services and equipment that benefit women’s and children’s services at the Hospital. They also serve an important role as ambassadors to families seeking services at Northern Dutchess Hospital.

“This group’s name can be deceiving,” says NDH Foundation Executive Director, Deborah Breen. “In fact, you don’t even have to be a mother to be part of the Mothers’ Club. You simply need to share the Club’s vision for helping to bring the very best services to women, children, and families when they seek care at Northern Dutchess Hospital”.

Over the past eight years, the Mothers’ Club has pledged nearly $200,000 to the Foundation, which has been invested in new equipment such as a mammography machine with stereotactic capabilities; new construction, such as the pediatric treatment room in the Hospital’s Emergency Room; an infant abduction alarm system; and a 4-bed pre- and post-surgical bay in the Hospital’s Surgical Center. Funds also go to producing community programs, such as the WHALE stickers (car seat child identification), free car seat checks and the very popular “Santa’s Day”, an event sponsored by the group each December in the Village of Rhinebeck.

“The central mission of this Club remains focused on raising funds and matching their donations with the programs and services that are in line with their mission,” says Breen. Long-time member Karen Volino sums it up best, “Working with the Mothers' Club has been a very rewarding experience for me. Potential new members drop by a meeting and are immediately welcomed. They find a lively, interactive group developing new projects. We work hard, enjoy each others' company and laugh a lot. I have made wonderful friends and I am proud to be associated with this diverse group of capable, dynamic women."

In addition to the Mothers’ Club being named as the honoree, Drs. Lucas and Maureen Terranova, together with John and Ani Marvin, have graciously agreed to Co-Chair the event. This black-tie event has become “the” social event in the Rhinebeck community, drawing a crowd of over 400 and raising close to $100,000 in 2009. Tickets are $250 each and invitations are mailed in early May to friends and supporters around the community. The Starlight Ball is just one of several fundraising events hosted by NDH Foundation.
