Sleep Disorders Center

Are you having trouble finding a good night's sleep? You may be one of the 70 million Americans who suffer from a sleep disorder like sleep apnea, narcolepsy or insomnia. Untreated sleep disorders can lead to more serious illness such as stroke, congestive heart failure, hypertension and even death.

Untreated sleep disorders impair concentration, cause irritability and memory loss and may lead to other more serious conditions. The gold standard for diagnosing a sleep disorder is an overnight sleep study. The Sleep Disorders Center at Putnam Hospital Center is fully accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.   In a standalone facility away from the hustle and bustle of the hospital, the Sleep Disorders Center specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of adult and pediatric sleep disorders, including, but not limited to, CPAP therapy.

Patients get to the Sleep Disorders Center by 8:30 pm.  They spend the night in a full-sized bed in a well-appointed room with a television and private bathroom. While patients stay overnight in the Center, their sleep patterns are recorded, including activities of the heart, lungs, brain, muscle movements, air flow and oxygen levels in the blood. Using advanced diagnostic technology, the staff can determine if an individual is experiencing sleep apnea or another less common sleep disorder and offer appropriate treatment options.  When testing is complete, the results are reviewed by a medical doctor here at the Sleep Disorders Center and sent to the referring physician.

If you are having difficulty sleeping, wake up not feeling refreshed or are told you snore at night, please speak with your physician.  A sleep study may be just what you need to get a more restful night’s sleep and an overall sense of health and well being.
