Noninvasive Cardiac Services

The Heart Hospital at Vassar Brothers Medical Center provides inpatient and outpatient services for adults and children in the form of diagnostic testing and monitoring.

Cardiorespiratory diagnostic tests for diagnosing cardiac problems include:

  • Electrocardiogram (EKG) records the electrical activity of the heart over time.
  • Stress Test is used to determine blood flow to the heart, detect abnormal rhythm, evaluate effectiveness of a procedure or medications and to determine if further studies should be completed.
  • Holter Monitoring is an outpatient test where a monitor is worn at home during normal daily activities to determine the heart's response to exercise; it also will help rule out heart arrhythmias.
  • Transtelephonic Arrhythmia Detection (TTAD) is a long-term cardiac event monitor. An outpatient test, this monitor can be worn up to 30 days during daily activities.
  • Echocardiography (ECHO) is a cardiac ultrasound, it uses standard ultrasound techniques to image two-dimensional slices of the heart in real time. Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE) is performed in the cardiac catheterization laboratory by a team including physicians, RN's and Echocardiographers; this test enhances cardiac images for a more accurate cardiac diagnosis.

Vassar Brothers Medical Center's Echo Lab is accredited by ICAEL in Adult Echocardiography, the highest recognition of quality in the field.
